Beans and Cornbread for Brunch

imgres

Maybe someday I’ll get to Sweetie Pies restaurant in St. Louis, Missouri. But until then, I’ll settle for Beans and Cornbread in my local area.

Last Weekend, my family and I visited this restaurant known for its delicious Southern-Style Cooking. We had a Southern-style brunch that included but was not limited to: mimosa’s, (yes, I ordered this first, don’t judge me) sweet potato waffles, grits, cat fish, fresh fruit, chicken, pancakes… you understand, right? Oh and did I mention the price is VERY reasonable?

Now, it would be nice of me to slap a picture right here of all the previously mentioned delicious food. Instead, I’m hoping the menu description will suffice and you will be moved to give this restaurant a try for yourself!

Sweet, Sweet Sunday!

Cinnamon is one of my favorite spices.

Therefore, it’s not surprising that one of my favorite treats is a cinnamon roll. I LOVE having a cinnamon roll on random occasions as a post breakfast treat with a cold glass of milk. To me, it’s a comforting, warm and sweet treat that always puts a smile on my face.

Typically I buy the Pillsbury brand to just quickly separate the dough and place it into the oven. Moments after it’s done, I spread the frosting over it (while the rolls are still warm) and I eat and enjoy! (I’m seriously salivating as I type this).

Maybe someday I’ll have the determination to make the rolls from scratch just as cook Laura Vitale does here:

Enjoy!!

Shooties and Foodies

I’m happy to say that two weeks in a row this blog has taken on its official meaning- that of me having brunch and wearing pumps.

Real Life Scenario #1- It’s rare that my mom and I go out to eat (it’s more of a pastime that my dad and I share), but when it does happen it’s always a good time. Last Sunday, mom and I ended up at brunch with other friends and had a nice booth to ourselves. My mom, the self-proclaimed “Fashionista” was flawless from “H2T” (head to toe), but for the sake of this blog I’ll only focus on the shoes.

Ironically, both of us wore pumps that are  “shooties”

Shooties (Noun)

1. An fashion item commonly worn on the foot that has combined characteristics of a shoe and an ankle boot.

Sidenote- (I’m not a fan of the word “shooties” but this is how they are recognized in the world of fashion)

Here’s a pic of the ones my mom and I wore:

Check back soon for real life scenario #2! And many thanks to my mom for helping me define Brunch and Pumps 🙂

ShoeLover “ShoesDay” Dilemma

I can’t believe it.
I can’t believe it.
I can NOT believe it.

According to Designer Shoe Warehouse (DSW) Saturday October 25th was dswNational Shoe Lover’s Day and guess who did NOT buy any shoes? Yup, this girl right here. I’m still in shock. Well… sorta.

On Saturday, I ran a few errands with my family and we ended up at a store that’s literally two stores away from a DSW that I frequent. The devil on my shoulder said to me: “Go inside, and buy some shoes! You deserve it! Or, at least go inside and just look at some shoes.”

Now, let’s stop right there.

First of all, let it be known from this moment on that it’s hard for any shoe lover to just LOOK at a pair of shoes and not buy.

So, that’s when the angel on my shoulder said: “No shoes today? It’s OK, no worries.” How true that turned out to be!

I ended up receiving TWO $10.00 off coupons from DSW, one for now (meaning end of October-mid November) and one for later (meaning late November-Early December).
The lesson?
Good Shoes come to those who wait. #Winning

Football, Food, and Father-Daughter Memories

The marriage of food and football this morning was a perfect idea, and all the credit goes to my dad.

Typically on a Sunday I like to sleep in, but I told my dad I would wake up early and begin cooking with him around 8 a.m. This would give us enough time to make a nice breakfast/brunch just in time for the special football game today in London. food We decided to keep the menu simple: Grits, bacon, biscuits, scrambled eggs, coffee, and bloody Mary’s.

It was not only a great meal, but this morning served as a reminder of what cooking is all about: making memories in the kitchen. My dad has always been the cook in the house, and it’s only been in recent years that I’ve decided to join him in the kitchen and cook. That was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Whenever my dad and I cook together we end up talking about funny moments from the week, and discussing new ideas. It’s also a time when we learn new cooking tricks/tips (such as how to make PERFECT, and yes I mean, PERFECT scrambled eggs- something my dad admits he’s only mastered as of late).
