There’s a Wedge Between Us

So, I’m mostly a high heel type of girl. Not outrageously high, but high enough to add some height to my current situation of being vertically challenged.

However, I’ve recently been showing a bit more love to my wedge heels. 1) I don’t own that many pairs of wedges (hint hint, time to go to DSW), and 2) I forget how comfortable they can be, especially for work. They add a little flair to an outfit, and can be worn with skirts, capris, or even cropped pants. I also think wedges can be a playful shoe just as much as the classic high heel.

Of course, wedges can get out of hand and be a bit too high or have an outrageously high platform. But, when they are worn modestly, they can be a perfect 10 in the world of shoes.

We are only about a month into Summer, and I’m glad I’ve rediscovered my wedge heels and I also plan to purchase some more.

Well, year 5 of the Black Celebratory is in the books!! It was a beautiful night on campus as we were able to honor many African American graduates.

As for the shoes I wore, many of my faithful readers have seen this pair before…

I absolutely loooooove wearing these shoes with this dress, and it’s even more special because tonight, all long-time affiliate members were honored with our very own kente stoles with our personal initials!!!

More than anything, I think this has shown the nice variety of shoes that are in my collection, and that I’m an all-around shoe lover. High-end, or low-end, as long as the shoe fits my foots, and adds comfort and style, then it’s good with me!

Since the event is in the evening (and some of my blog readers are attending the event tonight) I don’t want to spoil the surprise. Therefore, Check back tomorrow for a showing of the outfit I wore today with the shoes from Year Five!!

Gifted Heels

Last year for the Black Celebratory I wore my only pair of Micheal Kors heels.

Honestly ladies, I’m not a huge Michael Kors fan (I know most women love his bags), but these heels were gifted to me. I figured ‘well, I’m not too into his purses, but it doesn’t hurt to have a pair of his shoes!’ Besides, shoelovers don’t turn down shoe gifts!!

These bejeweled beauties paired greatly with my dress for the event last year. Overall, these shoes, named “Python” by Kors are fairly comfortable to wear. The peep-toe area doesn’t stretch as much, so it doesn’t give your toes a lot of wiggle-room. But, the jewels and the python material make up for any discomfort felt.

Ballerina Heels

For Year 3 of the Black Celebratory, I broke out with what I refer to as my “Ballerina Heels.”

These shoes, designed by Jessica Simpson were purchased at DSW and were once again, picked out by my sister!

Now I must admit, on first looking at the shoe I thought it was absolutely ugly. But, after trying it on, I was IN LOVE. The criss-cross straps resemble the front of a ballerina shoe. And believe it or not, the peep-toe and platform make this heel VERY comfortable.

Obviously this shoe gives me height and allows me to walk with confidence because my foot is nicely secured.

*Sidenote– I recently wore these shoes with a long gown to an anniversary party. After slipping these shoes on, I instantly remembered how great they feel on my feet! That moment made me wish I lived in a warm-climate area all year so as to be able to wear these shoes during the entire year.

Bleeding Blue

Just as Stunner Shades are popular, so were my Stunner (blue) shoes that I wore to the 2nd annual Black Celebratory.

These shoes were picked on a whim by my little sister as few years ago at Sears on Black Friday. Blue is Lena’s favorite color, and I decided to buy the shoes because 1) I had zero pairs of blue shoes 2) I loved the Mary Jane peep-toe style. The ankle strap adds definition to the legs, and paired with the unique color you will definitely be a show stopper.

It also helps that blue is one of U of M’s dominant colors. So, it could be said that I wore school spirit on my feet. 🙂 GO BLUE!!

5 Shoes, 5 Years …

For the past 5 years I had the pleasure of hosting the Black Celebratory on the campus of the University of Michigan-Dearborn. This is a special graduation celebration for the African-American students. The atmosphere resembles that of a family reunion, as graduates are able to celebrate with their family, friends, faculty, and staff in a relaxed setting.

I thought it would be fun to post the shoes I’ve worn each year to the event, leading up the this year’s event on Friday April 29th which will be the 5th one.

2012….

This was the black celebratory’s inaugural year. The shoes I wore were tan patent leather with a bow detail across the side of the toe box. These shoes, made by BCBG, are pretty comfortable and provide a nice grip to your foot when you’ve chosen your correct size.

Since this event was a graduation ceremony, I still believe these were the perfect shoes to wear as hostess, especially since these were the exact shoes I wore to my own college graduation the year before! Check back tomorrow for the shoes I wore in 2013!!
